A blast from the past

Maybe it's my fondness for nostalgia, but I thought that it was only appropriate to start this new adventure by looking back a little. This photo was taken 12 years ago now, when I was only 8. You've probably guessed from the fairly unmistakable structure behind us that we were indeed in Paris. This was my first trip to France and I think maybe when I first fell I love with it. But despite this childhood awe, I never would have guessed that over a decade later I would be packing up my life to actually fulfill this fantasy and have a chance to call this beautiful country home.

With little over a month till I set off on my trip to Bordeaux, the excitement levels are getting to an unbearable high, but this little photo, which is now pinned to my countdown calendar, reminded me of just how far I've come and admittedly pulled at my already over sentimental brain.

It also reminded me of a very cool project by photographer Irina Werning. It's called Back to the Future and involves taking old photos and recreating them almost perfectly with the same subjects years later. All the images manage to capture a sense of humour and so much emotional detail at the same time and I would absolutely love to one day recreate the photo above with my little brother and sister in the same way.

Here are some of my favourites from her collection, particularly the first one with the Berlin Wall, but you can view all of them here.
